These three CSX SD40-2s were rated at 9150 tons eastbound over Thomaston Hill in west Alabama. On a cool October day, they toted 12200 tons up and over the grade at 17 mph. Go figure.

Equipment Scouting. RTMS is expert at scouting modern and historic equipment and assessing fitness for production use. Obviously, this 1920's passenger car hulk will never roll again.
Texas-New Mexico Railroad. A trio of SD9043s move 65 cars northbound towards Jal, NM. Traffic on TNMR, which serves the booming Permian Basin oilfields, grew 450% between 2009 and 2012.

2006 Meridian & Bigbee Railroad. When there's a tie at a railroad crossing, the motor vehicle ALWAYS looses. In this 0330 collision, the truck driver said he never saw the locomotive's headlights or flashing ditch lights and never heard the horn. Amazing!
