Victor married Luigina 19 Aug 1943. The allied invasion of Sicily was completed two days earlier (Aug 17) and the imminent invasion of the mainland was expected. It happened at Salerno only 2 weeks after their wedding, raining bombs on their honeymoon.
Post war stamps of Mantua's local government prior to the re-unification of the Italian Republic. In 1945 when communist partisans wanted to arrest Victor, these were used by Carlo as tax seals on bottles donated as gratuity to the local partisans.

The battlefields of North Italy where Fascist forces had become defunct and Mussolini was on the run. The Allied Forces were moving northward and strong. Nazi troops were in confusion and retreating back to Germany via the alpine Brenner Pass.
